How to have a good night out in Playa de Las Américas

The epicentre of Tenerife's live entertainment, you'll find everything from cabaret, live bands, karaoke, discos, comedy and clubs enticing you in every night of the week here.

Parque de la Paz

There are three main areas to head to. The Parque de la Paz area is a row of locals (business units) providing nightly cabaret, most of it of a very high standard. Personal favourites here are Soul Suite for soul music and the Bull's Head with regular live band Vagabonds.

The Patch

Around the area known as The Patch where you'll find another glut of entertainment bars, are Shenanigan's (CC Las Palmeras; +34 616 73 98 10; www.tfnet.biz/shenanigans) with resident duo Looney Tunes and guest bands such as Traveller, and the Dubliner (Las Palmeras Hotel, Avenida Rafael Puig, 78) which fills up as the Parque de la Paz bars are winding down.

The Strip

The area which notoriously appeared in the Tenerife Uncovered TV documentaries is known as The Strip and here you'll find the infamous Veronica's and Starco's clubs where clubbers still flock to dance and drink the night away. At 5am, it's no place for the faint hearted. This is where you'll also find Wigan Pier with a full agenda of tribute acts and bands.

Uptown

Clubbers with more sophisticated tastes and fuller purses should head to the Magic Bar (Pirámide de Arona; +34 673 89 59 59; www.magictenerife.com) where the cool set hang out until the late early hours.

Nightlife in Las Américas isn't all cabaret and karaoke. Alongside the Mare Nostrum Resort is the Pirámide de Arona (Avenida de Las Américas s/n; +34 922 75 75 49; www.marenostrumresort.com) where you can see the wonderful shows of choreographer Carmen Mota with their fusion of flamenco and modern dance.

Los Cristianos

By contrast, neighbouring Los Cristianos is a much quieter affair where you'll find a handful of bars offering entertainment, most of them closing around the midnight hour. Younger visitors should head to the San Telmo area where they'll find a row of bars overlooking Las Vistas beach which don't get going until around the midnight hour and are favourite venues for locals.
