How to get around Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Getting around Santa Cruz de Tenerife - my advice
The centre of Santa Cruz is quite compact and easy to explore on foot.
Getting around by tram
A clean, fast, quiet and efficient tram service (www.metrotenerife.com) operates throughout the city and from the former capital of La Laguna into the city making getting around both economical and easy. The website has routes, timetables and fares information.
On Friday and Saturday nights services run every 30 minutes throughout the night.
Tickets for the tram can be purchased at any stop via an automated machine which has multi-lingual instructions.
Tickets cost 1.30 euros for a single journey and 2.45 euros for a return journey.
Punch the ticket into the machine on board, the price is the same regardless of journey.
You can buy a Bono card for 12 or 30 euros for multiple journeys which entitles you to 0.95 cents discount on every journey and is valid for travel on buses and for discounts on entrance to museums too.
Anyone caught traveling without a valid ticket will receive an on the spot fine which they can pay at the same machine they should have bought a ticket from.
A white tourist train operates from Plaza España every hour between 10am-10pm and tours the city. The tour takes 40 minutes and is free.
