Cardiff isn't shy of places to eat. And while the usual chain restaurants are often sadly over-subscribed, scratch the surface and there are some great places tucked away outside of town - most notably in the Pontcanna area just west of the centre.
Being a capital city, almost every nationality of plate can be served, but you're in extra luck if you like Italian or Indian cuisine - there are hundreds of both, and the competition has led to some really spectacular restaurants. There's also a really impressive national pride among many establishments, each one cherishing local produce and I've noticed a significant rise in vegetarian establishments. The best of which are all recommended on this list.
