Read full expert reviewSadly Sorrento central isn't renowned for great cuisine - in spite of the fact that the ingredients: tomatoes, lemons, olives and fresh fish from the sea, are all readily available. I put it down to the fact that Sorrento's popularity has allowed restaurants to get lazy; the usual fare is pizza, pasta and simple salads. But don't be discouraged; good food can still be found on the Sorrentine peninsula, if you know where to look.
Having said that the food in Sorrento and around is disappointing, my recommendations are those places that are still making an effort and some, such as Don Alfonso (a little way out of town, but definitely worth the trip) are serious destination restaurants. The list will expand as I find new places and, ruthless foodie that I am, shrink when fave places start to lose their sparkle. Needless to say, restaurants that are on the main drag (with a few exceptions) tend to make the least effort and charge the most.
