Arguably the best ice cream in Venice, with a host of unusual flavours.

Carlo Pistacchi’s two great loves are the AS Roma football team and ice cream, and he’ll wax lyrical about either to anyone who’s prepared to listen as they savour his excellent gelato in this little shop not far from Campo San Giacomo dall’Orio.

Food and drink: 

The classic flavours are well represented but Pistacchi loves to experiment; I make a point of returning from time to time to sample the novelties. Rose, ginger and almond are all interesting; fennel, artichoke or asparagus are acquired tastes.

Ambience: 

Tiny hole-in-the-wall.

Service: 

Affable and chatty.

Location: 

Near Campo San Giacomo dall’Orio.

Price advice: 

Cones or cups range from 1.20 euros for a single scoop to 2.40 euros for three.
