Best for Cheap eats - Expert review of Caffe Cordina
This is a Valletta landmark and popular meeting place right at the heart of the capital. Sit under the (dis?)approving gaze of Queen Victoria with a cup of coffee and a sandwich/pastizzi and watch the world go by.
There is coffee and cold drinks, pastries, sandwiches, pastizzi (traditional Maltese mini-pasty) and excellent ice cream.
Inside, it is rather like a Viennese Café, outside it is all Valletta – paradise for people watching.
It's either uniformed waiters, or go to the counter. Not fast, but not slow either and anyway who cares, there is plenty to look at.
The café is right on Valletta’s main street (pedestrianised) just before it feeds into the city’s main square. Outside seating takes up most of a small secondary square in front of the Knights’ library, between St John’s Co-Cathedral and the Grand Master’s Palace. Could not be more at the heart of things.
Croissants cost 1.65 euros, pastizzis 75 cents for two, baguettes 4.95 euros, and ice cream 2.25 euros per scoop.
