Expert review of Ca'n Costa
This is just about my favourite place on the island for a cosy winter lunch after a long walk. It has everything I value in a place: bags of atmosphere, friendly people, jugs of drinkable country wine and hearty, honest food.
The menu here is traditional, 'peasant' fare really. Very much of the land and sea and featuring simple ingredients and flavours like courgettes stuffed with bacalao (salt cod), roast loin of pork with wild mushrooms, cabbage leaves stuffed with game birds and the house special: roast, island suckling pig.
It always feels very festive here. Like one big happy family, full bellies and brimming with good cheer.
Like calls to like: it is also one big happy family who run the place and they do it with joy and joie de vivre. It’s a wonderful thing to behold.
On farmland, a short distance out of Valldemossa on the road to Deià. There is lots of running around space for the kids.
What you'll spend depends very much on what you eat. Main courses cost anywhere between 11 euros and 22 euros.
Like I said, I really love this place in the winter when the fire is roaring inside, but the vine-covered terrace is also lovely in the summer months. Make it a year-round destination. One thing is sure: it never disappoints.
