Expert review of Cap d'Or

Classic beach-front terrace by the ruined castle at Tossa de Mar.

This restaurant and cafe is attached to the Hotel Cap D'Or and is a great place for a light lunch and a glass of something chilled with great views of the beach and the castle.

Food and drink:

There is lots of wonderfully fresh grilled fish (I had some particularly good sardines last time I was here) and they also do very good bocadillos – French bread sandwiches. I also love coming here mid-afternoon for one of their homemade ice-creams. They also have a separate ice-cream counter so you can just drop by for a cone on the go.

Ambience:

It's comfortably relaxed on the terrace outside whilst the dining room inside feels more like a cross between a relaxed country hotel and a smartened up fisherman’s inn.

Service:

The staff are very friendly. The hotel is run by a charming mother and her two daughters.

Location:

It's at the far end of the main seafront promenade under the shadow of the castle.

Price advice:

Main courses are 9-15 euros.
