Expert review of Queen Mother

Asian fusion and the city's best patio.

The decor and the menu don't line up — portraits of the late QM peer out over a dimly lit room where shoppers take breaks from the sales and after work friends meet for pre-cinema dinner of Asian fare, but somehow it works and in summer, the compact patio out back feels like it's miles from the traffic and bustle of Queen.

Food and drink:

Confidently created Asian fusion food.

Ambience:

After work/pre-cinema crowd mixed with shoppers taking a break from splurging at the nearby stores. The nick-nacks and paintings are all Queen Mother-related and give the main room a slight British pub feel.

Service:

Ranges from shockingly off-hand to mostly disinterested, but gets there eventually.

Location:

The heart of the Queen West shopping strip.

Price advice:

The Pad Thai is a bargain, but it's worth splashing out those few extra dollars for one of the specials.
