Expert review of Local Kitchen and Wine Bar
It's first come, first served at this atmospheric Italian-influenced eaterie and salumerie on the far west side of downtown Toronto.
Small plates, salumi, traditional home cooking — if you were brought up by a pair of incredible Italian chefs. Ingredients sourced from Ontario are rustled into Italian classics, such as Ontario Berkshire Pancetta, Lardo stuffed cappelletti pasta or the $50 salumi tasing menu.
The salumi tasting menu is the big news here — but it doesn't come cheap. The pastas are excellent and entrees (which change regularly) are impeccable - I loved the Kolapore Springs trout, served with fennel, leeks, olive marmellate and caperberries - at $15 it seems a better deal than the salumi.
Cosy, bustling, boisterous.
Down to earth, friendly.
The dowdier end of Queen West, just before it hits Roncesavlles. Very close to Sunnyside Beach, though, if you want to combine the two one day.
If you reserve the chef's table (the only table you can reserve), there's are two sittings for meat eaters — 6:30pm and 9pm — and the meal is $50 without drinks.
