Best for Trendiness - Expert review of The Black Hoof

The Hip Hoof is a Back-to-basics Charcuterie

A carnivore's delight, this hard-to-find cafe leaves modern and post-modern menus behind and ttakes this back to basics. The Black Hoof specialises on all those bits of beasts that many people don't want to think about. Or perhaps they do — the Hoof is one of the hippest dining spots in the city and you can wait a long time for one of those few tables.

Recommended dishes:

Beef tartar, amazing charcuterie and cheese platters, and a slew of other bits (tongue, marrow, liver, brain...)

Ambience:

Bustling, cool, upbeat.

Service:

Same as the ambience, service is cool and upbeat.

Location:

Halfway between Little Italy and Little Portugal - it can be hard to find. If you're heading west from downtown and hit Trinity-Bellwoods Park or Ossington Avenue, you've come too far.

Tables to book:

I like the bar seats — they're cosy and you'll be fed faster than waiting for one of the relatively few tables.
