Expert review of Di Leva
Right on the harbour, this little café that hasn't changed since the 1950s is a no-nonsense purveyor of fresh fish, pasta and drinks. Grab a table and drink in the view. Pictures of Sophia Loren inside the café are a reminder that La SIgnora made Vittoria de Sica's Scandal in Sorrento here and, so it's rumoured, she insisted on eating here on a recent visit.
The best plan is to see what's on the specials board and order it. On my last visit it was a small firm-fleshed fish served with a simple salad and a drizzle of oil and piece of lemon. A few patatine fritte (chips) and a beer went down very well too.
Thanks to the location, this is an extremely popular place for lunch and large groups of young people and families with kids.
It's no frills: brisk and efficient.
Thanks to the steep walk down from the centre, Di Leva tends not to be frequented by the tour bus brigade - even though the bus service (Linea D) is an option if you don't fancy the trek back up again.
Nothing is cheap in Sorrento so don't be surprised when that little fish, salad and a beer comes to 25 euros.
