Expert review of L'Oca Giuliva
Husband and wife team Franco and Fabrizia have brought their love of Italian food - and Italy - to the heart of the city. Everything is market fresh and homemade, and there is also a daily set-menu that is excellent value.
You have a wide choice of fresh salads, homemade pastas, pizzas and crostones baked in a wood-burning oven, as well as mouthwatering desserts. I find it hard to pick a favourite dish because everything is always so good, but I do like some of the more unusual pizza toppings (smoked salmon, cream cheese and rocket) and they also make a mean pesto sauce.
It is cosy and comfortable inside with a few tables outside. Scenes from classic Italian films adorn the walls and there is even an old bicycle hanging over the entrance (for those who can guess the movie reference).
There is very attentive and personal service, though it can be a bit slow at times. Just relax and go with the flow.
It is in a great location just a stone's throw from the Cathedral in the heart of Santa Cruz.
Salads and starters are from 8 euros, pizzas from 8-10 euros, and pasta dishes between 9-12 euros. There is a great value daily special: a three-course meal with a drink and coffee for 10 euros.
