Best for Gourmets - Expert review of Gastromium
Young chefs Miguel Díaz, Ernest Masalaña and José Luís Carabias believe that three heads are better than one, and clearly prove that the old “too many cooks” addage doesn't apply in their case. Their enthusiasm for top-notch ingredients beautifully prepared is quite contagious and I am very much looking forward to their new tapas bar opening in 2011.
The ever-changing market-fresh menu is impressive. Vegetables are locally grown and fish is brought in daily direct from the Cadiz coast. From the tasting menu I have to say that the bulltail "ingot" was my favourite and, although I don't usually go for desserts, the Café Marrakesh was a creamy coffee and liquer-infused delight.
The cool and minimalist space, created by award-winning interior designer Francesc Rifé, is both chic and cosy, and acheived with clever use of colour, texture and lighting.
The service is impeccable. Maître Duncan is both knowledgable and entertaining.
It's curiously located on the fringe of Porvenir, so take a taxi.
There are three tasting menus available, ranging from 50-80 euros. Dinner for two costs approximately 45 euros per person. Wines by the glass are 5 euros, and by the bottle from 14-600(!) euros. VAT is not included.
