Expert review of La Hierbita
My friends love it when I take them here; one of the city’s most iconic restaurants set in a 19th-century house over two floors and endless rooms oozing history and tradition. Floors creak, walls are crooked and the food is simple and delicious.
Choose from pica pica (tapas), main or seasonal menus del día which cover a range of Canarian foods from across the islands, all home made and all hearty helpings.
I like their cod in onion sauce, the almogrote cheese paste from La Gomera (not for the faint hearted) and the papas arrugadas con mojo. Finish with tarta de la abuela (grandma’s cake).
It's popular with city workers, shoppers, students and the occasional intrepid visitor.
It's like eating in a museum with table service.
Opposite the sculpture mask of the Teatro Guimerá, it's alongside the main tramway in the heart of the city.
There is a menu del día of three courses, bread and a glass of wine ranges from 11 euros to 25 euros depending on season.
