Expert review of Amura

Best Michelin-rated restaurant on Lanzarote - upmarket in every way.

The first time I came across this elegant white, Colonial-style restaurant in the swish Puerto Calero marina, it was a big surprise. Just on the edge of the large resort of Puerto del Carmen, this serene spot overlooking the sea is a world away from the hustle and bustle.

Food and drink:

The menu here is international, with a focus on French and fusion cuisine. Suckling pig, roast duck and a variety of fish dishes are almost constant staples.

Recommended dishes:

The steak here is usually very good – served with a variety of sauces; I would also recommend the lobster.

Ambience:

The atmosphere here can be a little stiff, rather like the starched white napkins and tablecloths, but the waterside backdrop is a constant plus.

Service:

Waiting staff have a tendency to be a bit frosty: my biggest criticism of this restaurant.

Location:

It's about a 10-minute drive from the resort of Puerto del Camen, in the upmarket marina of Puerto Calero.

Price advice:

This place isn't cheap: you would be hard pushed to get dinner for two with wine for under 100 euros.
