Expert review of Savino (Covo dei Saraceni)
Savino is the restaurant attached to the Covo dei Saraceni hotel, and the location can't be beaten: it's on the waterfront and looks out over the sea, the beach and back up at Positano.
Unsurprisingly, seafood is the speciality here: on a pizza, in a risotto, straight from the grill or, my personal favourite, with a plate of spaghetii alle vongole (with clams).
How can you not feel joyful when you're sitting at a table on the terrace, looking out over the sea and musing over the menu? Inside, the enormous open kitchen provides the view.
It's solicitous, without fawning.
You can't miss it: head down to the beach and turn right. Covo dei Saraceni is at the end of the beach just before the jetty.
It's remarkably reasonable, considering; you're probably paying a bit for the location but the seafood is also as fresh as it gets, so don't be surprised when your insalata di mare (seafood salad) costs 15 euros. Even the mozzarella with cherry tomatoes is a keenly priced 13 euros - and you've only just started. My advice would be, if you're counting the euros, have a plate of pasta and a glass of wine and you'll come away with your house intact.
Sit on the terrace, of course.
