Expert review of Maialino NYC
Danny Meyer, the owner of Maialino, has become a New York legend for his excellent restaurants and has done it again with his latest venture. I don’t think I have had Roman food so good outside of Italy.
Think of a classic Italian trattoria with a much more upscale environment, with dishes like the terrific tonarelli cacio e pepe, spaghetti carbonara and meaty entrees like braised lamb and veal T-bone. My only caveat is that brunch is missable as far as I am concerned.
This is a dining room where New York’s elite meet in a bustling open space - think power brokers on expense accounts, fashion editors post shows and foodies who know their pasta.
As in all of Meyer’s restaurants the staff are professional, courteous and well-versed in both food and wine.
Housed in the trendy Gramercy Park Hotel near the beautiful private Gramercy Park, this is about as an enviable address as you can have.
It may be humble delicious fare but the prices are New York elite, ranging from US$18-$32.
This hotspot is one of the city’s toughest reservations to snag. Don’t be surprised if you can only get a 6.30pm or 11pm spot, even if you are a hotel guest.
