Expert review of Henry Public

A Brooklyn newcomer which epitomizes the borough’s charms.

With a speakeasy feel, this great neighborhood hangout has good, unpretentious food and a fun atmosphere.

Food and drink:

The menu here emphasizes American classics, with a great burger, a wonderful turkey sandwich and a good daily selection of oysters. Don’t miss the Wilkinson’s, a kind of decadent donut, and the joint’s excellent specialty cocktails.

Ambience:

The owners have successfully created a old world feel with a great zinc-paneled bar and wood banquettes.

Service:

Brooklyn hipsters cheerfully lead you through the short food menu and the handpicked cocktail list.

Location:

On the fringes of Brooklyn’s hip Cobble Hill, not far from Brooklyn Heights (walk over the gorgeous Brooklyn Bridge and then reward yourself with a meal here).

Price advice:

The prices are quite expensive despite the down-home atmosphere - like US$12 for a turkey sandwich and $13 for a burger - but they are good enough to make them worth being over 10 bucks.

Tables to book:

I love the tables in the small back room.
