A small funky Italian spot with dependable and tasty small plates.
This 24-seat outpost of the beloved Brooklyn restaurant serves up the same excellent food and good wine list. I always make a trip to one of the two Frankies on any New York visit.
Food and drink:
The fresh Italian dishes always use high quality and artisanal ingredients. I particularly like their escarole salad with sliced red onion pecorino and walnuts, homemade gnocchi with marinara sauce and fresh vegetables like roasted carrot and string beans.
Ambience:
Lower East Side cool is impersonated with a tin-ceilinged roof, black and white tiles and cozy tables, all with a hip crowd.
Service:
Young and sweet, I find the servers here more personable than at the Brooklyn outpost.
Location:
On hip Clinton Street, which has quickly become a Lower East Side foodie Mecca.
Price advice:
The small plates add up quickly, running from US$7-$17, so don’t over order.
Tables to book:
There is a no-reservation policy here but the table selection is quite uniform anyway.
