Expert review of Cusani
My heart sank slightly as I walked into this hotel dining room. It looks drab and I was the only one there. However, within minutes of my arrival it filled up with local business people, my first course arrived, and I realised that, décor aside, I had stumbled on a hidden treasure. It’s slightly off the beaten path, it doesn’t look like much, but the food is great. It is also significantly cheaper than other restaurants of a similar quality. I really enjoyed my lunch.
The cuisine is modern Italian. I started with a simple bresaola with rocket and the smoothest and creamiest goats' cheese I have ever tasted. I then had a wonderfully presented plate of cuttlefish and prawns grilled with olive oil and herbs, topping off the meal with a chocolate and hazelnut parfait. Mmm.
On the ground floor of the Una Hotel Cusani, this really doesn’t have a huge amount of atmosphere as a dining room – more 1970s hotel. But ignore that and concentrate on the plate in front of you.
The service was friendly but not chatty, though my waiter went out of his way to explain the specials and make recommendations.
Around the corner from the Castello Sforsezco.
Expect to pay about 40-50 euros for three courses without wine.
