Best for Outdoor dining - Expert review of El Guanche
There can be few restaurant terraces more remote than this one overlooking the gorge at the 300-year-old former schoolhouse in the hamlet of Masca. When I sit here with my homemade lemonade and goats' cheese, I feel as if the rest of the world no longer exists, and what's more, I don't care.
There is a small menu of homemade vegetarian soups, fresh local cheeses and tapas dishes.
It's informal, and tends to be filled with couples rather than families. Popular with those day trippers who are not restricted to tour group departure times.
It's friendly and laid back, no-one's in a hurry to steal themselves away from that mesmerising view.
It's at the end of a path above the gorge in the hamlet of Masca. The terrace juts out over the gorge with breathtaking views over what is known as Tenerife's Shangri-La.
The small set menu is 17 euros for soup, cheese and tortilla and a sweet.
