Expert review of Oddono's
Lots of places claim to sell freshly made ice-cream but they actually use mass-manufactured mixes and churn them ‘freshly’. At this Italian gelato specialist, the gelati and sorbetti really are made from scratch from good raw ingredients.
I’d never have just one flavour - one of them would be chocolate though; high-quality Valrhona chocolate, the choice of many top chefs, is used here. The pistachio gelato, with pieces of bright green nut, is especially good, so too the hazelnut flavour. Italian gelato is lighter than American-style super-premium ice-cream but if you want something lighter still, there are sorbets such as coconut, mango and strawberry available, and dairy-free gelato made from soya milk.
A simple gelateria with a few retro-chic stools where you can perch.
Friendly enough.
A small street of foodie businesses a few minutes from South Kensington tube.
Expect to pay £2.50 per scoop – not cheap but not the most expensive in London either.
Oddono’s has kiosks in Selfridges department store and shopping centre Whiteley’s of Bayswater – see website for details.
