Expert review of Le Café Anglais
It’s not a café, not very anglais, and furthermore it’s set rather bizarrely in a shopping mall, but this restaurant from esteemed chef and Financial Times cookery columnist Rowley Leigh is well worth a visit if you’re staying in West London.
It’s a classy ocean liner look thanks to curved cream banquettes, drops of red fabric, impressive rectangular lights and a well-dressed, monied crowd.
Smooth and accomplished but not always charming.
Easily the brightest spot in Whiteley’s of Bayswater shopping centre.
Go à la carte and you can easily pay £50 per head. The weekly set lunch menu offers a choice of three dishes for each course and costs £17.50 (two courses) or £21.50 (three). The set dinner is similar, but slightly more expensive. Keep an eye on Twitter or the restaurant’s website for the many tempting seasonal deals and specials.
