Best for Cheap eats - Expert review of Delifonseca
Candice Fonseca's interest in and committment to good food is clear as soon as you enter her well-stocked, late-opening deli in the city centre. Upstairs, the modest but funky restaurant makes full use of all the great ingredients stocked downstairs in sandwiches, salads and platters, and also offers a handful of main course specials chalked up on a blackboard.
Good, simple food with Mediterranean influences is the order of the day at Delifonseca, with a lot of things, including pies and sauces, made in-house. It would be difficult not to find something delicious here and they really know how to sell it - the menu is a tempting read.
Any of the deli platters are a great choice, as are the hot specials.
Laid-back, the kind of place you can read the papers in.
I've always been well looked-after, without any fuss.
Stanley Street isn't the most attractive corner of town, but it's handy for the Metquarter shopping centre, where good food is hard to find.
Sandwiches are around £8, but that includes enough chips and salad to make it a proper carby meal.
There's a bigger branch at Brunswick Dock, but it's not as handy.
