Expert review of Border Grill

Upscale Mexican food on the southern end of the Strip.

Border Grill is owned by Americans, rather than Mexicans, but don’t let this put you off – the menu is top notch, and it’s even home to one of my top-rated desserts. Yes, it seems expensive (you'll spend a little more here than at Hussong's) but it’s definitely worth the money.

Food and drink:

Upscale Mexican food. You get your standard quesedillas and nachos but also more interesting dishes such as Peruvian ceviche and tamales, which are the speciality here.

Recommended dishes:

The bread pudding is up there with my favourite desserts in Vegas.

Ambience:

It’s smart without being too formal, and pretty buzzy, thanks to its poolside location.

Service:

It’s a Mexican restaurant and it's in Vegas – which means two strikes for friendliness.

Location:

In Mandalay Bay, south of the main Strip action. The patio by the pool is lovely.

Price advice:

Main courses from US$16.
