Best for Romance - Expert review of Lagomar
I don't think it can get much cooler than this: eating in Omar Sharif's old house – the story goes that he lost it in a game of cards – in a tiny, remote village. This bar and restaurant is a little bit of Ibizan-style right in the middle of Lanzarote, where the food is as swanky as the surroundings.
The menu is classic international, with a leaning towards French/Mediterranean dishes that can be just a little bit pretentious.
My advice would be to go for something relatively simple and don't over order (the prices are relatively high compared to the standard of food) and save room for one of the decadent desserts.
I was enchanted by the exquisite setting. Lakeside terraces, caves, pools and exotic gardens make it an atmospheric, and very romantic spot – quite a number of engagements have taken place here.
I thought the service wasn't as charming as it could be, although staff here tend to change pretty rapidly.
A little difficult to find, the restaurant is in a village overlooking the cliffs of an old quarry.
Prices are pretty expensive here for the quality of the food, but you are of course partly paying for the extraordinary setting.
