Best for Gourmets - Expert review of Lucas Maes
If you only push the boat out once, push it here. Lucas prepares and presents sensually succulent cuisine on a menu that changes weekly and features the best seasonal produce. Believing food is art, he combines contemporary with traditional in his dishes and his dining room – both of which are sublime.
This restaurant is the first choice of some of Tenerife’s top chefs.
There is a small menu of world class haute cuisine based on international trends combined with local ingredients and the Lucas magic. Everything from the bread to the ice-cream is freshly prepared in the open kitchen.
It has one of the most extensive wine lists on Tenerife featuring local and Spanish mainland wines as well as international labels.
When I was there Lucas prepared the most succulent scallops I have ever tasted and followed them up with a light mousse on a biscuit base with banana ice-cream and toffee reduction. I shall be dreaming of that food until my next visit.
It's sophisticated and sexy – there’s no other word for it. Most of Lucas' clientele are Spanish, British and German residents. You may also find some of the island's other top chefs on their days off.
Like the food - the service is faultless.
It's on the border of Puerto and La Orotava in a grandstand position overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and swathes of banana plantations across the La Orotava Valley.
The degustacion (taster) menus are 35 and 40 euros. Starters average at 17 euros and main courses are 19 euros on average.
