Best for Dining alone - Expert review of Kahvedan
With a proper happy hour, American-style brunch, free and fast WiFi, and surprisingly ambitious food for its café vibe, Kahvedan quickly became my “local” when I first moved to Istanbul – a role it plays for many foreigners as well as Turks.
A generally successful blend of Turkish, American, and Asian cuisine where alcohol is served.
For brunch, I always debate between French toast, eggs Benedict, and huevos rancheros (fried eggs with tortillas and salsa), and almost inevitably pick the Singapore-style mee goreng or the Asian beef wrap for lunch or dinner.
Styled as a casual bistro, Kahvedan is peaceful during the day and lively at night, especially in the summer months, when the outdoor tables are the place to be.
The waiters are friendly, if sometimes forgetful.
On a bustling corner in the heart of the popular Cihangir neighbourhood.
The three-course set menu for lunch (served from noon-3pm) is a good deal at 10 lira, as is the lively Tuesday night happy hour, when draft beer, house wine, and rakı are just 6 lira from 8pm-11pm.
