Expert review of Giritli
Simple but sophisticated, Giritli offers one of the best dining experiences in Sultanahmet, a fixed price menu focused on perfectly cooked seafood, served in an inviting atmosphere.
The set menu of hot and cold starters, grilled or fried fish, and dessert features wild herbs and greens from the Aegean region and dishes such as cracked green olives with goats' cheese, garlic, and walnuts; thinly sliced fish cured in lemon, salt, and olive oil; and calamari with a sweet walnut sauce.
Shady and secluded, the rock-walled garden is the preferred place to dine in good weather; in winter, tables are set inside a beautiful old wooden house.
Service is attentive and fairly formal.
Set on a lovely little cobblestone lane in the back streets of Sultanahmet, Giritli can be a bit hard to find; keep an eye out for the nearby Armada Hotel.
The set menu costs 95 lira per person, including unlimited Turkish beer, wine, or rakı.
