Expert review of Bambuddha Grove
Bambuddha Grove has been a long-time labour of love for owner (and Ibiza legend) John Moon – just read the tales inside the extensive menu to get more of a feel from where he’s coming from. For me, well, I love a good themed restaurant and Bambuddha takes it to a whole new level, with an entire compound surrounded by wild bamboo taking you on a journey for all the senses, complete with karmic and tantric elements that are all about peace and love, baby…
Bambuddha Grove has trademarked its fusion menu with the title of MediterrAsian, though I think it still leans more towards the Orient, with plenty of Thai, Indonesian and Japanese flavours prevalent throughout.
The pad Thai is among of the best I’ve ever tried in the world, the tuna tataki seriously melts in your mouth (and makes your eyes water with the spice) and the hot Thai curries do exactly what they say on the tin! Salmon marinated in teriyaki sauce and served on a bed of spiced spinach is another of my favourites and the all-time winner has to be the crispy duck pancakes with syrupy-sweet hoisin sauce – delectable!
The overall concept (think Thailand meets Ibiza whilst trekking on the hippy trail) makes for a really fun night out, from early drinks in the Siam Bar, moving onto a deluxe dinner in the authentic Balinese restaurant hut, followed by after-hours silliness in the erotically-charged Tantra Bar. On most nights you’ll find an assortment of tourists, locals and owner John Moon’s friends (aka the Black Sheep Tribe); whether making a night of it or just popping past for a drink or quick curry, I always feel welcome.
Flawless and ultra professional, every single time (and I’ve eaten here a lot!).
One of the first places you’ll come across at the start of the San Juan “Restaurant Road”, Bambuddha Grove is about 15 minutes from Ibiza Town and easily accessible by car or taxi.
Starters are an average of 10 euros, mains between 18 and 27 euros and sushi platters for two can be up to 48 euros.
For special occasions, ask for Prive, the special “closed door” private room with guaranteed discretion or ask for the moonlight lounge for a VIP dining experience in a garden pagoda.
