Expert review of XTC
XTC has been delighting Hong Kongers since 2002, many of whom skip dessert at whatever restaurant they've just eaten at to wander along the street and gaze at the range of flavours - 80 at the last count - that's never short of enticing.
The gelatos and sorbets are freshly made, using - for example - Valrhona chocolate from France, kalamansi fruit from orchards in the Philippines, and pistachios grown on the lower slopes of Mount Etna in Italy. They also do gelato cakes.
Stem ginger; and honey lemongrass. Yes!
The stores are all fairly small, with minimal seating, but well lit and welcoming. With a bit of a sweet tooth myself, I'm never so happy as when I can loll outside watching the world go by and slurping as decorously as the day's temperature allows.
You're welcome to try the various flavours before - decisions, decisions - making your final choice. Staff are invariably cheerful: who wouldn't be working somewhere like this?
Very much the town centre.
Lick for lick, it's more pricey than regular ice cream, but worth it.
There are other brances in Tsim Sha Tsui - see the website for details.
