Expert review of The Wee Curry Shop

Boutique Glasgow curry house serving up a menu of contemporary Indian classics.

My judgement may be clouded here: I love a good curry. One of Glasgow’s very best, The Wee Curry Shop offers a masterclass in the fine art of Indian dining. From the expected – chicken tikka and potato pakora – to the unexpected – prawn and salmon poori or haddock with mustard seeds – it’s a five-star Scottish curry experience: I can’t look at the menu without drooling all over the table.

Food and drink:

Throw in a good dose of Indian spices, add a dash of coriander and cumin and serve with locally sourced produce and The Wee Curry Shop’s menu exudes knockout flavour with a tightly clenched Glaswegian fist.

Recommended dishes:

King prawns with ginger and the spicy lamb karahi do it for me every time.

Ambience:

As the restaurant is tiny, space is at a premium making it feel extra special to land a table. Booking in advance is recommended at the weekend and especially on Friday nights. Fitted out with lush purple wallpaper, it feels like walking into a sultry backdrop from a page in the Karma Sutra.

Service:

Standard for a busy Glasgow curry house.

Location:

In the heart of the fashionable West End, and close to the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, it’s the perfect stop for a fuel stop or late night meal with friends.

Price advice:

Served from Sunday to Thursday until 7pm, its Chai menu (a main course served with chai and cake) is a bargain at £7.50. With a charitable heart, The Wee Curry Shop has a history of opening on Sundays and donating its £10 set menu to local causes.
