Expert review of Tex Mex 2
Donald Mavor had Tex Mex in Edinburgh in the 1980s and sadly moved on. But - hallelujah - he missed the restaurant world and so he's come back with this little gem. It's got the lot: bright colours, great spicy favourites and it's a venue for the whole family.
Roll up for fajitas, chimichangas, nachos, a taco salad the size of a football, jalapeños and jugs of iced margaritas too easy to glug.
Flaming fajitas everytime! And margaritas! Plus nachos to share, with great globs of melted cheese and jalapenos.
It's small and bijou inside. Bench-seating and bit higgelty pigglety but it has to be to fit in everyone who wants to eat here. Often all tables end up interacting and having a fiesta! Brilliant for kids too.
Donald is usually here dipping in and out of the kitchen as he cooks up a storm. Always smiley, friendly and laid back.
On Thistle Street, very central and next door to Joseph Bonar the antique jeweller. Watch you don't get dragged in after a good lunch.
Very reasonable. A two course lunch is £8.50 and these are mighty portions.
Any - the place is tiny so take what you can get.
