Expert review of Sweet Melindas
Sweet Melindas opened 10 years ago and declared people would only pay what they thought their meal was worth. It put them on the map and people clearly wanted to pay well for this delicious food, which has been very much part of the Edinburgh scene ever since. Specialising in seafood and fish, but offering great choices across the board, it is a charming restaurant within the Marchmont area of the city. Right next door to Eddie's seafood market, this fish is all but breathing!
The emphasis is on seafood, though there are veggie options and meaty things too.The location of Eddie's seafood market next door ensures this fish is so fresh you might want to check for a pulse. Sustainable and seasonal - all the buzz words apply here. Under each main course you'll find a wine they recommend, a nice touch.
The fish soup with rouille and parmesan crouton. I also recommend the steamed halibut with wild garlic pesto.
Friendly and warm, with painted cream wooden panels and photos from the past adorn the wall. Intimate and welcoming, also good for bigger crowds.
So friendly you will want them to adopt you. They regret they can’t serve kids under the age of five due to new licensing laws.
In the Marchmont area of the city just off the meadows. Nowhere in Edinburgh is more than a 10-minute taxi drive.
A two-course dinner costs £22.50. Oh and you can BYOB on a Tuesday for £3 corkage.
