A homely eatery serving pizza and local dishes, overlooking Dubrovnik’s Gruž port.

Just a few doors up from Hotel Lapad, this friendly informal eatery serves pizza and a small selection of typical local dishes on a rooftop terrace with views of the ferries sailing in and out of Gruž port, across the bay. It's ideal if you’re staying in a hotel on Lapad peninsular and want a reasonably-priced, no-frills meal, away from the usual tourist haunts. In case you were wondering, Blidinje is the name of a lake in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Food and drink: 

Despite it being a pizza place, they also do a good choice of meat and seafood dishes, all cooked over a big barbeque. When I was there I had dagnje na buzaru (mussels in garlic, white wine and parsley) – an enormous portion, totally delicious, and I mopped up all the sauce with fresh crusty bread.

Recommended dishes: 

Try the miješana plata Blidinje - a mixed plate with a bit of everything, for two people.

Ambience: 

Unpretentious and relaxed, Blindije has a pleasant roof terrace with eight or nine tables affording views over Gruž harbour – making a nice spot for sunset supper. Downstairs, there’s a simple but cosy dining room, should the weather turn chilly.

Service: 

There are friendly and helpful waiters – though some of the older ones might not speak much English.

Location: 

It's close to Hotel Lapad, overlooking Gruž port.

Price advice: 

If you go for pizza you can easily eat for 60 kuna per person. If you opt for seafood, expect to pay double this.
