Gary Rhodes brings some Michelin-starred excellence to town.
Over the past few years, Dubai has become a veritable smorgasbord of celebrity-endorsed eateries, and often with some excellent results. At the top of the pile sits Gary Rhodes' first local outpost (he now has two), a multi-award winning spot laden with decadent decor and serving classic British staples from the spiky-haired chef (who regularly pops over to check up on it).
Food and drink:
British and European classics get the Gary Rhodes twist. As you might expect, it's all outstanding.
Recommended dishes:
Scallops. Beautifully juicy tender scallops. Oh, and the bread and butter pudding to finish with. Delicious.
Ambience:
It's rather relaxed, but certainly not a place to let your hair down. It's popular with Dubai residents, and guests of the hotel and is a particular favourite for couples.
Service:
Outstanding. I haven't heard a single complaint about the service, with the waiters perfectly attentive without being overbearing.
Location:
Rhodes Mezzanine is in the Grosvenor House, a boutiquey style tower hotel in the Dubai Marina. It's not easy to walk to but all taxis will know where it is.
Price advice:
Not cheap at all. A meal for two with a bottle will top 500 dirhams (and quickly head towards 1,000 dirhams). But most gourmet fans have agreed that it's most definitely worth it.
