Best for Dining alone - Expert review of Loca
If you find yourself in Jumeirah one evening and fancy a pint or two without much fuss, you won't find a much better spot than Loca, the supposedly-Mexican-themed-but-nobody-really-notices bar/restaurant just left of the entrance to the Dubai Marine Beach Resort and my local. Aside from perhaps the city's best menu of international ales (and that's including Old Speckled Hen) they do a reasonable burrito too to soak it up afterwards.
It's pretty much all Mexican here, from beefy (or chickeny, it's up to you) burritos, to sizzling ribs to made-at-your-table guacamole. For the cost, it's pretty good quality. Drinks-wise, you've got an excellent selection of ales from all over the world (except, naturally, the Middle East).
I particularly like the ribs, mainly because after 7pm on Monday's you can get a sizzling plate of them, plus a pint, for only 70 dirhams.
It's very casual in here and can get quite rowdy at weekends (Thursday and Friday evenings). Don't worry about dress code - I've wandered in wearing flip flops and swimshorts (the public beach is just next door) without any fuss.
Usually fine, but the bar can get a bit crowded at the weekends.
Most dishes cost between 40 and 80 dirhams. There's a decent Friday brunch from midday-4pm, which serves four courses, plus unlimited drinks for 255 dirhams.
