Expert review of Cavistons
Attention seafood lovers, do yourselves a favour, take an afternoon with your special other and head south along the coast to Sandycove, to legendary seafood haven Cavistons. The owner Peter Caviston is a fishmonger and the food is fuss-free, fresh fish. You can walk off your indulgence along Marine Parade afterwards, and head up to watch crazy swimmers jumping off the Forty Foot pier. It's well worth the 15-minute taxi ride from the city centre.
It's fish, fish and more fish, freshly caught, simply cooked and elegantly presented.
Try the crab cakes to start, and you can taste the crab which makes a nice change! I can't look much further than the scallops for my main, but you really can't go wrong here.
It's homely and genuine. Time moves more slowly in Sandycove, so leave the city centre behind.
The staff are local and the hospitality is warm.
It's 15 minutes from the city centre, but the setting is beautiful, just a step from the coastal road between Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey so your post-dinner exercise will be a scenic one.
There is a 12.5% service charge for parties of five or more.
It's a small restaurant that's often booked out so take whatever you can get!
