Expert review of Kødbyens Fiskebar
I loved my visit to Fiskebaren and would have gone again if I had not had so many other places to try. I love the simplicity of the place, the wood fire welcoming you in, the giant fish tanks, the mellow vibe and I especially loved the food.
The menu is my ideal for a fish restaurant - lots of fresh simple options including local Limfjorden oysters or Øresund scallops with raspberries and walnut oil, and plenty of subtle and carefuly crafted dishes. The wine list is well chosen and the staff seemed to know their stuff, including offering a terrific beer brewed by Vesterbro's excellent local microbrewery.
I loved the shrimps cooked in brine served with cucumber and smoked cheese and the amazing, lightly-smoked haddock and chips. The one non-fish dish I tried was also excellent - an amazingly tender and flavourful rib eye, no doubt from one of the wholesalers around the corner.
I love the cosy and casual atmosphere here. It's intimate and softly lit. Lone diners can feel involved by sitting at the bar.
Efficient and friendly, the waiting and bar staff were on the ball and knew their stuff.
In the heart of the hip meatpacking district, you're in the thick of the catering wholesale quarter that has also become a nightlife hotspot packed with cool little bars.
For Copenhagen this place offers very reasonable value, although there are no savings to be had in terms of set menus or anything similar.
