L'Ondine Plage

You can’t miss the Ondine. It’s a flotilla of peach-coloured loungers, parasols and table cloths packed in around the bridgehead of the main restaurant building. Oh and, of course, it’s right on the beach.

So are quite a few other Cannes restaurants but there aren’t many better than this.

It’s not the cheapest but l’Ondine hasn’t let the fact of being an olive-stone spit from the sea interfere with the serving of some really very classy dishes. Chef Jean-Pierre Silva is particularly good on fish – notably lobster and red mullet – but can also come up with a nice grilled quail salad.

And eating all this with the Med at your elbow may not quite be decadent, but it doesn’t fall far short. The office never seemed further away.
 

Plus which, of course, the nippers can be fed and then let loose on the beach - while you finish the wine and take the time for erudite conversation, as all young parents long to do.
