Expert review of Zab
This place doesn’t seem remotely Thai when you walk into it - there are no polished wooden Buddhas and little by way of hanging lanterns. But the softly lit stone dining room, white linens and intimate vibe make it a great spot for something different when you tire of more traditional island cooking.
Don’t come expecting blow-your-head-off curries or stir-fries liberally spiked with chillies and peppercorns. This is a mellower kind of cooking, more universally appealing, but still filled with bright flavours and aromas.
Try the satay chicken with lemon grass dipping sauce and the sweetly spiced king prawn curry.
Softness is the word that springs to mind here. Décor, music, chatter - all is hushed and tranquil. This is not a place to party, but a great place to chill.
All is kindliness and gentle; this is the kind of place you feel looked-after and cherished.
Zab is in pretty much the last house as you drive through Calonge en route to Porto Colom.
The restaurant is pricier than it really should be. Expect to spend around 50 euros for three courses and a bottle of wine.
