Expert review of La Gavina
This is rustic, unfussy and very good value. You also won’t go hungry after lunch or dinner here as portions are on the generous side.
Last time I was here I had some deliciously grilled asparagus followed by some wonderfully tender lamb chops. The fish here is as fresh as you’d hope for being this close to the sea and there’s a good selection of salmon, bream, turbot, sardines and cuttlefish – all served perfectly grilled. They also do very good salads and pan con tomate (handmade country bread with freshly pureed tomatoes and olive oil), served with a variety of fish, cheese or sausage toppings.
The decor is tastefully nautical indoors with a high, wooden beamed ceiling, whitewashed walls and sea-faring memorabilia and there is a pretty, leafy courtyard outside.
Prompt, friendly and very personal which all adds to the intimate feel. We also got chatting to the owner last time we went - it's that kind of place.
It's on a small side street about one minute away from the beach.
It costs about 40 euros for two including wine.
