Expert review of Lutter & Wegner
Traditional German and Austrian dishes combined with a massive selection of wine, all within a historical setting, make this one of Berlin's most popular restaurants - and one of my personal favourites.
Lutten & Wegner serves traditional, regional cuisine, specializing in Austrian dishes including Wiener Schnitzel with potato salad and excellent game dishes. Since Luttner and Wegner are one of Germany’s oldest and most famous sparkling wine makers, it's no surprise to learn that the place also functions as a fabulous wine bar, complete with a comprehensive wine list and attentive sommeliers.
The game dishes are recommended.
Founded in 1827, the restaurant has an historic atmosphere, with dark panelled walls and parquet floors. It can often be full of tourists, however.
Efficient and professional in general but can become frayed on busy evenings.
On Mitte’s Charlottenstraße, with good views of the Gendarmenmarkt.
Set menus are around 35 euros and main dishes are 13.50-19.50 euros. There is also a more moderately priced bistro on the premises.
There is a sister establishment at Oranienburger Straße 52-53, where the atmosphere is more contemporary.
