Best for Outdoor dining - Expert review of Café im Literaturhaus Wintergarten
As its name suggests, Cafe im Literaturhaus enjoys a somewhat refined air, yet it's entirely approachable at the same time. As well as good coffee and food, the establishment also holds regular events and exhibitions. The ambience consequently varies depending on when you visit, but is generally pleasantly upbeat and friendly.
The café serves breakfast, tea, coffee and cakes, light lunches and dinners of salads, pasta and Argentine steak. Sunday brunch is particularly popular - do dress a little for the occasion.
The cafe is part of a private foundation dedicated to German literature and regularly hosts literary events and exhibitions, so you will often find literary types and artists here. The café occupies the entire ground floor of the 19th-century Literaturhaus villa and features gilt-edged stucco ceilings and yellow ochre walls. In warmer weather you can sit outside in the pretty garden with shady trees and blooming roses, or in the greenhouse-like winter garden when it is cold.
Friendly and refreshingly unpretentious.
The Literaturhaus is one block from the Ku’damm, Berlin’s busiest shopping street.
Average main course is 12 euros.
