Best for Families - Expert review of Café am Neuen See

One of Berlin's loveliest lakeside cafes.

Cafe am Neuen See is located right next to the eponymous lake in the middle of the sprawling Tiergarten park. It's a pleasant, natural place with food and snacks, German beer and rowing boats for hire. Especially great for families.

Food and drink:

The self-service beer garden serves southern German specialties like Weisswurst and leberkäse (meatloaf), along with European fare such as pizza, pasta and cakes. A second, smarter area has a broader menu and is popular for weekend brunches.

Ambience:

The venue enjoys a picturesque setting, next to the small lake and with plenty of trees in the beer garden and around. There are a couple of sandpits for children to play in and rowing boats for hire.

Service:

It's self-service at the beer garden and friendly table service at the main restaurant.

Location:

Café am Neuen See is situated on the southwest edge of Berlin Zoo and has lovely views of the river and chestnut trees.

Price advice:

Average 10 euros for an entrée and 3.80 euros for a half litre of beer. Bottles of wine from 18 euros.
