Expert review of Borchardt
Borchardt is one of the best known restaurants in Berlin - with a daily changing menu that revolves around its famous schnitzel - and attracts a broad mix of politcians, celebrities (Barack Obama and Mick Jagger are among the famous) and well-heeled tourists.
The high-quality French-German cuisine menu, which changes daily, features fresh fish, tender beef, Brittany oysters, veal and what it is reputed to be among the best Wiener Schnitzels in Berlin. The wine list is correspondingly wide-ranging and sophisticated.
This Borchardt is a reconstruction of the original late 19th-century restaurant that burned down during the war. The modern incarnation features period details such as high ceilings, marble columns and an Art Nouveau mosaic. The tables are spaced widely enough apart to ensure intimacy but the atmopshere remains generally quite formal.
Aloof but skilled.
In Mitte, close to Franzosische Straße U-Bahn.
The prix fixe lunch is more moderately priced.
