Expert review of Restaurante Taita
Orange seems to be the colour for restaurants these days and that’s the scheme that José Miguel Tortosa, owner and chef at Taita has chosen, which, combined with cream, pale grey table linen and big bright oils of Valencian scenes has created a bright and cheerful place to eat. A bar de tapas at the front (with a selection of over forty tapas prepared ‘en el momento’ – fresh as you order), with a restaurant to the side and a large shaded terrace for summer dining, give you a chance to escape the hurly-burly of tourist life.
The menu is eclectic in the best possible sense of the word. Anything that has Pedro Ximenez involved (the superb rich, dark dessert sherry) hits the spot for me, and with foie and corazon de platano (sweeter and creamier than an ordinary banana) it made the perfect starter. It’s wonderful to see savory crepes as a starter, and my dining partner raved about his filled with smoked salmon and caviar. The caramelized strawberries had me salivating. I was pleased to see the menu offered a good selection of starters and lighter dishes without concentrating too heavily on meat. I loved the idea of an ‘anti-aging’ menu, (12 euros) which is ‘healthy, energy giving and calorie counted’
Bright and modern, comfortable.
Near the Parque de Aiguera, Benidorm’s peaceful spot.
There is usually a good value menu del dia on offer.
