Expert review of El Embarcadero
Owned by a renowned family of fishmongers, this is one of the best-loved restaurants in town and offers finger-lickingly good food. For me its location is what truly puts it in a league of its own. Set on a promontory above the sea, there’s a near-permanent salty zing in the air and 180 degree views along the coast.
Their dinghy service, bringing people on passing yachts to the restaurant, is a special touch. Just give them a ring and they’ll zip out and collect you.
The family has been in the fish and seafood trade for decades so you’ll get the best of the best. They also have a fine selection of red meats and game, as well as a selection of gourmet Iberian hams and cheeses. Naturally, there’s a phenomenal selection of Spanish wines.
Are soft live piano music, a candle lit, reclaimed-wood terrace and uninterrupted views of the fishing boats bobbing around as the sun sets romantic enough for you?
The staff are friendly enough but could take their time more to give a more personal service.
It's on a small headland above the beach in the Torrequebrada/Carvajal district.
You’ll be looking at around 40 euros a head with half a bottle of wine.
