Best for Romance - Expert review of The CourtYard
A recent makeover has injected new life into this fading Beijing icon, with a bold new menu of contemporary European fine-dining and a contemporary refit in the dining room. The location remains one of the most desirable in town, overhanging the moat beside the east gate of the Forbidden City.
A changing line-up of pricey European fare, but I remember with pleasure the lobster and organic chicken raviolo served with a dollop of smoked trout and potato salad, followed by rare saddle of lamb stuffed with dried apricots. Pickles, cheese and sorbets are all made in-house. Very extensive, very expensive wine list.
The hushed tinkle of conversation provides the perfect soundtrack for your upscale, candle-lit soiree.
Very professional and courteous, from the maitre ‘d to the waiters and waitresses.
Beside the east gate of The Forbidden City, with views across the moat.
At the top end, but few better spots to pop the question, or impress a business colleague.
